EmuCR:PS2 emulatorPCSX2 SVN r2707 is released. PCSX2 is a PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.

PCSX2 SVN Changelog:
r2706
Attempted fix to get gust games and fatal frame working w/o a gamefix hack.
I was only able to test Ar Tonelico which worked with this fix, comment if this breaks fatal frame (or a gust game or anything else...)
r2707
Let's preserve XMM/MMX registers on dma functions again.
Fixes Fatal Frame 1 missing geometry.
The game should be fully working again, even without the gamefix :)

  1. Seems with these newer revisions, or at least post r2186, games like Tales of the Abyss run a lot slower. My fps was a smooth 60 before, now it barely tops 40 and is unplayable.

I've noticed that games will not start in full screen either, even with the option checked in app settings. It still starts windowed.

Also, not sure if it's an issue with plugins or PCSX2 itself, but is the skipping/stuttering spoken audio in games like Final Fantasy XII and other titles fixable?

  2. while i haven't tested that game, i've had no speed issues and no problems with full screen, and i've played FFXII a *lot* with these recent builds, no problems with the stuttering sound. sorry. maybe you should try a "clean install" of one of these new builds, maybe there are some legacy settings causing these problems? also follow the setup guide on the forum and disable speed hacks (FFXII runs perfect for me with no hacks enabled)

  3. Perhaps these builds are only being tested in Vista/Win 7, I'm an XP user though. I did a clean install of this newest build, still same issues. I also don't like everything by default thrown into my documents folders, I like having it all dumped into install folder the way it was before.

Games will *not^ start full screen even with the option checked. The only way it seems to work is starting the game, hitting escape then checking the full screen option once more, then it kicks in. Again, probably an XP issue that's not showing up in Vista or Win 7.

Another bug I'm having is when exiting from full screen, everything from the emu screen is ghosted on Windows and I have to maximize a window to make everything appear normal again. It's like it's not being wiped out properly.

Still the same framerate problem with Tales of the Abyss, runs at around 40 fps compared to older builds at a full 60. I believe most the FF XII problems stem from DX9 as well, and countless people have mentioned cutscenes and FMVs stuttering or skipping random words.

  4. Okay I tried a totally clean install and was given the option where to install everything. So that issue was my fault, sorry. Unfortunately everything else still stands as I said above, think I'll stick with r2186. Really hope these problems aren't apparent once 1.0 is released.

I forgot to mention another bug: enabling video sync seems to cut framerates in half, while in r2186 it causes no frame rate problems. Not really eye pleasure playing games with screen tearing.
