Goliath v0.32.12 Preview is released. Goliath is a C++20 and Qt 6 desktop frontend for Neo Geo MVS/AES and Neo Geo CD. It organizes the game library and launches media through the Jolly Good Reference Frontend (JGRF) and the Geolith core. Goliath is only a frontend. Emulation is provided by JGRF, JG, and Geolith.
Main features:
One library for Neo Geo MVS/AES .neo files and Neo Geo CD .cue/.chd images.
Parent and variant grouping for cartridge games.
Recursive Neo Geo CD discovery.
Optional local verification against MAME and Redump metadata.
Optional command.dat companion window for matching MAME game IDs. It is tied to the launched JGRF session and requires no JGRF modification.
Search, persistent exact-media Favorites and 1–5-star ratings, name/year/ rating/playtime sorting, compact personal filters, visible-only Random, snapshots, and history.
Per-game BIOS, video, input, and core settings without changing global configuration.
BIOS verification and safe JGRF BIOS preparation.
Save-data backup, validation, restore, deletion, and folder access.
Exact-media playtime, session count, and last-played tracking, including background observation after the main window is closed.
Selected-game performance benchmark and one-shot WAV export.
Frontend and JGRF diagnostics with guarded log controls.
SDL3 controller mapping and asynchronous audio-device discovery.
Twelve contrast-checked light and dark themes.
Goliath changelog:
This preview adds an optional visual command.dat companion, improves the
library layout, and refreshes the audited Windows runtime packaging.
Highlights
Added a bounded, fail-closed command.dat parser with UTF-8 BOM, CRLF, DOS
EOF, alias, exact-variant, clone, and parent-ID support.
Added an automatic command companion for normal tracked game launches. It
follows the matching JGRF process and does not affect Benchmark or WAV
export sessions.
Added scalable visual notation for directions, Neo Geo buttons, button
groups, qualifiers, and move categories. Unknown notation remains visible
verbatim, and Raw mode preserves the source text.
Added a movable transparent overlay with adjustable background opacity,
Visual/Raw switching, persistent Command overlay control, compact ROM ID
strip, and geometry preservation when Keep above changes.
Added overlay search: Ctrl+F opens it, Enter and Shift+Enter move
between matches, and Escape closes it.
Improved overlay readability with refined text contrast, section and
character accents, consistent dark arcade-button labels, compact scrollbars,
and stable long-command reflow.
Moved Show variants into the Filters menu and removed redundant Playtime
and Sessions tooltips.
Hid the library/details splitter line while retaining its six-pixel drag
target.
Added an Info-tab OpenGL ES/BGRA compatibility indicator for the exact
tested Windows JGRF and libepoxy builds.
Refreshed Windows CI licensing for Qt Base 6.11.2-2, split GCC runtime
packages, and ICU 78.3-4.
Optional command data
Goliath does not bundle or download command.dat. To enable the companion,
place a legally obtained catalog at:
The default-on Command overlay control affects future normal game
launches. Clearing it does not close an overlay that is already open.
Renderer note
On the tested Windows setup, the external overlay remains continuously visible
over JGRF fullscreen with Vulkan. OpenGL Core, OpenGL ES, and OpenGL
Compatibility require windowed presentation for continuous overlay visibility
while the game owns focus. This is presentation behavior, not a command parser
or notation limitation.
