EmuCR:PS2 emulatorPCSX2 SVN r4871 is released. PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.

PCSX2 SVN Changelog:
r4870
debian: cherry pick micove ppa improvement. Thank very much.
cmake: shutup some warning (mostly sdl...)
r4871
SPU2-X: Reworked the circular buffer functions for audio output, with a thread-safe version.
This hopefully avoids the issues appearing after long periods of continuous playing.

  1. As (hopefully) first poster here I have a question for you folks...

What kind of games do you usually play on PCSX2? Just pure gaming curiosity. I'll start by saying that I personally play almost only RPG's (JRPGs mostly that aren't available on PC :( ) after that Adventure and maybe Hack n' Slash.

P.S. I'm really bored and tired. SMT Nocturne is wicked. And *not* healthy at all. XD

I'm really, really lazy... It's not as much curiosity as boredom. :p I just wrote that for the heck of it. >.> You're right nevertheless. Well if anyone voices their opinion ok, if not, same. It's at least more interesting than trolling/flaming that is more than half of posts here. Regards.

  5. Well since it's ps2 section, I'll just heavily recommend in case you haven't played 3 of my favorite ps2 adventures: ICO, Shadow of Colossus and Okami. Except they are more adventures and less action. And are really unique in terms of... almost everything.

  6. I don't really play games on PCSX2, just checkin the progress here and then. I keep the playing on the actual PS2. one of my favorite games (Blood Will Tell) is unplayable.

Popular games to emulate are non-complex-emulatable stuff like Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy X, DBZ Budokai3, Persona3 FES/ Persona4 and for higher end FFXII and Shadow of the Colossus.

    They explicitly said:

"The speedups in the games that benefit from it are great if you have a cpu with 3+ cores (generally a 10~45% speedup), HOWEVER games that are GS limited can be a slowdown (especially on dual core cpu's)."

Henceforth that is probably it. Even though it's a speedhack and compatibility is high, like any other speedhack in pcsx2 it sometimes works, and sometimes it doesn't.

Also it would be more useful if you said your CPU model or at least formed the info correctly... And since when HT Link transfer speed (I assume) and North Bridge frequency matters to emu speed directly?

Nevertheless, concerning "now pcsx2 is so fucked up O_o" you can turn it off whenever you like. Also it's not like anyone's forcing you to use that function or this emulator. There's another option, for example, try hanging yourself, it might make pcsx2 run faster and better. You'll never know if you don't try. :)

P.S. I love my new Logitech Wave keyboard, it makes some things less dreadful and more... dandy? XD

  9. First, i'm using an emu since my real PS2 is having DVD issues.
Then, i'm playing mostly JRPG and games wich never never appeared on PC.
But as of now, i can't really say i'm "playing", too much compatibility and speed issues won't let me really enjoy games. I'm just regularly checking until we reach a 99% perfect state (as with NES,SNES and PS1 emus).

  10. Personally was never much of a fan of JRPGs, I play games like Killzone, Gran Turismo (3 and 4), Wipeout and Black mostly. Its only recently that the emulator has gotten powerful enough to run these games though so I might give shadow of the colossus a try when I'm done playing the others. Killzone alone gained 20-50% performance from the GIF rewrites, you don't even need the "not recommended" speedhacks anymore 0_o
