EmuCR:WineWine v1.5 Final is released. Wine is a project to allow a PC running a Unix-like operating system and the X Window System to run x86 programs for Microsoft Windows. Alternately, those wishing to port a Windows application to a Unix-like system can compile it against the Wine libraries.

  1. Whether you treat it as an abbreviation for WINdows Emulator, or an acronym for Wine Is Not an Emulator, it's the greatest weapon in the Linux community in terms of compatibility. However, there is one catch. Wine only works on computers that can run Windows natively. I see it mainly as a convenience tool for people running multiple OS's to run some Windows applications when they're not currently running in Windows.

  2. This is not Wine 1.5! It is the Layout Engine named Wine Gecko, which is used for the Internet Explorer implementation under Wine.
