EmuCR:CCS64 CCS64 v3.9 is released. CCS64 is a Commodore 64 Emulator for PC and also in the future other platforms. It was developed by me, Per HÃ¥kan Sundell, as my Master Thesis at my university in 1995 and have been expanded a lot since then. My personal interest in the C64 has been very intensive since 1983 when I was spending nearly all my time with it, and I was deeply involved in the so called "Scene". When I later in 1987 bought my Amiga 500, I missed the old good times I had with my C64 and since then I have tried my very best to make all the old programs to work on my new machines. One of my first attempts was to resurrect the old C64 music, the famous SID chip. In 1990 I and Ron Birk released a demo called "100 most remembered C64 tunes" which was very popular, and in 1991 we released the very first tool for Amiga called "PlaySID" which later inspired a lot of similar programs on other platforms.

CCS64 is shareware. This means that the program is free to use and to copy, but if you like it and use it regularly I would appreciate that you would register the program. The reason for this is that I have spent countless of hours of making and maintaining CCS64, and without some contribution from you, it would be completely impossible for me to continue with developing it, besides my efforts to make my living and being with my family. I used to be at the university, since 1999 I was a Ph.D. student researching in parallel programming. Now I have finished my Ph.D. and turned to more practical programming work. I am currently working hard with starting up a company (Parallel Scalable Solutions) offering practical implementations based on my research results. So far, having been a student for a very long time, I haven't really made it up economically so its really thanks to all the people (about 400 in total since 1995 - which have given me in total $5400 after tax) that have contributed with registering so far that it is possible for me to have quite up-to-date computer equipment. Other benefits with registering, except from making me very happy is that there probably will be (and already are) special features in the program that are only for registered users. And while considering implementing new ideas and improvements, the suggestions that I get from registered users are of course considered at highest priority.

CCS64 is a program that runs on your PC that turns your computer into an old Commodore 64 computer. This means that the program simulates, or rather emulates the old computer, enabling you to run most of the old software you had for that old machine, running it just like it would in the past. Of course there are some small differences compared to the real thing, but my goal has been to minimize the differences as much as it is possible.

CCS64 v3.9 Changelog:
- FIX: The TAP of the game 'Bombuzal' now loads properly.
- FIX: A random slow-down problem has been fixed.
- FIX: The 'Sync To Screen' option has been fixed.

  3. #1 CCS64 is shareware!
#2 Hox64 is good but produce very bad picture!
Conclusion - Vice is still the best free C64 emu!

  4. Haven't any of you guys tried Micro64 yet? Up until now I always used VICE but Micro64 really impressed me with how far it's come. The interface is extremely minimalistic and there's no manual so you kind of have to figure it out yourself but I've come to love it.
    Just sayin'.

  5. #3 Yes, thanks, forgot to mention also this one new C64 emu Micro64. So now looks and works good and it's free but requires min. WinXP and very speedy PC to run properly - area where VICE also still wins!

  6. What lets Micro64 down is it's old-style, in-emulator gui, very late 90's. This is 2012 and a nice gui can't be hard to do. Also, it lacks any real joystick options, which to me seems a little weird on a C64 emulator when the real c64 had these built in. Still, it's still early days, and the authentic look and great SID emulation make it one to keep a eye on.
Hox64 is still my fave, better than Vice, IMO.

  8. #6 Regarding Micro64 - very promising new emu.
Some notes from the official page:
    - Aimed to become the most accurate C64 Emulator
    - Status: Still under heavy development!
    - Next big thing on the list is a massive GUI rework

#7 CCS64 emulator is shareware. This means that the program is free to use and to copy, but if you like it and use it regularly author would appreciate that you register the program. And that means 30$...so it's not free!

  9. #9 Dear Edgard, CCS64 is, as above text also nicely speaks just - SHAREWARE,
so maybe that angry in your words comes because you already pay it.
But still don't understand why when there are around similar if not even much better and modern also accurate C64 emus that are totally for FREE!
See, I can afford it, but have no need for that when VICE is still in my opinion better and is my choice #1 - the 2nd is Micro64, and the 3rd is Hox64. See, no really need for paying for C64 emus. Se si capisce???

  10. CCS64 is not strictly Shareware. CCS64 V2.0 BETA and CCS64 V3.x is complete and DOES NOT need to be registered - it is not crippled/cut-down in any way.
